Having extra skin on the neck, often referred to as a “turkey neck,” can be a concern for many people. While it’s not possible to completely eliminate loose skin with exercises alone, there are some moves that may help tighten the muscles underneath.

These exercises are simple and can be done at home, but it’s essential to note that they may not completely remove extra skin, and their effectiveness is not backed by research.

Neck Exercises to Try

Here are 9 exercises that may help tone the neck muscles:
1. Pucker up: Sit comfortably in a chair and tilt your head back, puckering your lips like you’re giving a “selfie duck face.” Repeat up to 20 times.

2. Get chewy: Sit with your back straight and gently let your head fall back, moving your mouth around like you’re chewing with your lips closed. Perform this movement about 20 times.

3. Sit-ups for your neck: Lay flat on a bed with your head hovering over the edge and bring your head up toward the ceiling with slow and intentional movement, engaging only your neck muscles. Perform about 5 of these neck-ups.

4. Frowning: Curl your mouth edges down into a big frown and repeat a few times, feeling some resistance.

5. Facepalm: Put your palm on your forehead and try to drive your head into your hand without moving your head forward, pausing for nearly 10 seconds.

6. Chin to chest (neck flexion): Stand straight, bring your chin to your chest, and pause for 30 seconds before performing a handful of times.

7. Fish face: Suck in your cheeks as much as you can, keeping your lips puckered out, and hold for 5 seconds or longer, performing up to 10 times.

8. Baby bird facial yoga: Push your tongue tip through the top of your mouth while smiling and look up to the ceiling 10 times.

9. Closed mouth smile: Grin as wide as you can with a shut mouth, keeping your lips close to your teeth, and hold for 5 seconds or so, repeating up to 10 times.

While these exercises may help tone the neck muscles, they are unlikely to completely eliminate loose skin. Surgery and other cosmetic methods, such as lasers, may offer more impressive results for tightening loose skin.

For those who prefer natural methods or are not ready for cosmetic procedures, neck-toning exercises and facial yoga movements may offer some improvement. It’s essential to be careful and not overdo it to avoid straining the neck.

Before starting any new exercise routine, it’s best to consult with a healthcare professional to ensure you’re doing the exercises correctly and safely.
